The Jordan Transparency Center has launched a national initiative, named “Nazahti”, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, to enhance integrity values among youth through various forms of artistic expressions, such as drama, performing arts, drawing, music, creative writing, and poetry.
The initiative, supported by the Ministry, aims to create an “anti-corruption generation” by instilling integrity values at a young age. These values will contribute to advancing sustainable development and establishing an environment to combat all types and levels of corruption. This initiative will continue to expand through continued efforts to include other groups of youth across the Kingdom.
This initiative was launched at the Princess Salma Center for Childhood in Zarqa Governorate, after a set of consultative meetings with the Ministry as well as experts in the arts and civil society, which were held over two days. The first day included a presentation on the concepts of integrity and transparency presented by Dr. Jamil Samawi, a member of the Jordan Transparency Center, and the artist, Mr. Suhail Baqaeen, who translated these concepts through drawings that reflected the content of the meeting.
On the second day of the initiative, the center held two activities in separate sessions for a group of high school and university students at the King Abdullah II Cultural Center in Zarqa Governorate. The first session focused on the concept of integrity and how to encourage the adoption of this value. These sessions were led by Dr. Jamil Samawi and Dr. Majid Al-Khodari, Chairman of the Zarqa Governorate Council, who also presented a brief on digital media and its importance in limiting the spread of rumors and the assassination of important figures.
In the second session, director Rana Qadri trained a group of young people to perform a sketch related to integrity, transparency and rejection of wasta and nepotism.
At the end of this activity, certificates were distributed to the participants. We would like to express our gratitude to the Ministry of Culture for its support and cooperation in implementing the activities mentioned in the cooperation agreement. We also want to give thanks and appreciation to Mr. Ayman Arar, Director of the Zarqa Culture Directorate, and his colleagues at the Princess Salma Childhood Center and King Abdullah II Cultural Center, as well as Dr. Majid Al-Khodari, for their full cooperation, which contributed to the success of this initiative.
These events were attended by social activists and lawyers including Dr. Jamil Samawi, Rana Malhees, Fahd Jabr, Dr. Maha Al-Zagha, and from JTC’s Transparency Knights, lawyer Lara Obaid, lawyer Moaz Tahat and Mr. Munir Al-Smaiheen.
This initiative is the fifth of its kind, the center has previously launched the following national initiatives; “The Transparency Knights” in 2013, “Universities Against Corruption” in 2017, “My School My Integrity” and “Women Against Corruption” in 2018 all with the aim of strengthening the national integrity system.
It is worth noting that Jordan Transparency Center is a non-governmental, non-profit organization, established in the year 2011 and dedicated to enhancing integrity, good governance, accountability, and combating corruption through community participation and oversight.
