The Jordan Transparency Center has witnessed nothing but patriotism and loyalty to its cause on behalf of the Transparency Knights. Despite unprecedented challenges that were faced, the Transparency Knights accomplished many great things in 2020.
Every year the Transparency Knights hold a celebration for International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9th. But with Jordan stricken with the COVID-19 pandemic, we knew 2020 was going to be different.
Through a social media chat dedicated to JTC communication, Transparency Knights President and lawyer, Lara Obeid, suggested a different way of commemorating the occasion. She came up with the idea to produce a theatrical performance to express youth perspectives on corruption in the press.
We knew this would be a difficult task, but we were excited to give it our best effort. One of the Knights, Qais Al-Manaseer, began writing a script, and within 4 days had it done. Within a month, the complete work had been put together. Together the Transparency Knights Lara Obaid, Qais Al-Manasir, Moaz Tahat, Amir Hattar, Faisal Sweiss, Malak Al-Faraj, Farah Al-Qammaz, and Abdullah Al-Lawama performed and produced the work.
The process was challenging but we managed to achieve our goals. With the help of the Ministry of Culture, we were able to obtain the Osama Al-Mashini theater as a venue to perform our work. We were confronted with many challenges, greatest of which was out physical distance from one another. The Transparency Knights exist as a national network and our members are thus distributed across the Kingdom throughout the cities of Amman, Madaba, Karak, Irbid, Ma’an, and Salt. United in our love of Jordan, we decided to proceed, using Zoom as a means of holding rehearsals remotely until we were finally able to come together in person for the final performance. We hope that through our efforts we have been able to prove the enthusiasm, determination, and capability of young Jordanians in the fight against corruption.
We would like to extend our thanks to Ms. Hilda Ajeilat for her unwavering support in this and other efforts of the Transparency Knights.
