Launch of the Regional Forum “Combating Corruption and Promoting Transparency in the Arab World”

Roya – Hamza Al-Shawabkeh – The Arab Anti-Corruption Organization, in cooperation with the Jordan Transparency Center, held a regional forum on Saturday morning in the capital Amman titled “Combating Corruption and Promoting Transparency in Arab Countries,” aimed at examining the alignment of Arab legislation with the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

The meeting, attended by many political, parliamentary, and media figures, as well as heads of anti-corruption agencies in most Arab countries such as Kuwait and Egypt, seeks to review the stages of dealing with this convention, evaluate the steps taken by Arab states that are parties to it, and identify obstacles to its implementation, as reflected in the Corruption Perceptions Index and the Arab Index for 2014.

The discussion focused on examining the historical, cultural, and social roots of the absence of effective political accountability within governance systems in Arab countries. It also explored ways to raise public awareness and the role of media and state educational policies in this regard.

It is worth noting that this meeting will continue until tomorrow evening, and participants are expected to issue a set of recommendations and conclusions on this topic.
